Lawrence Rice, MD

 

Head of Academic Hematology at the Houston Methodist Hospital and he is also affiliated with St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. He holds current academic positions as a Professor of Medicine at Cornell Weill Medical College, a professor of Pathology and Jimmy C. Adair Endowed Chair in MDS Research at the Houston Methodist Hospital, and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine in Hematology and Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1974, his board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1977, and his board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology in 1980. Dr. Rice has clinical experience in Hematology in areas including, but not limited to, acute leukemia, anemia, clotting disorders, hemophilia, and lymphoma. His research expertise includes, but is not limited to areas such as thrombosis and haemostasis, leukemia, and sickle-cell disease. Throughout his 41 year career he has received many awards, Outstanding Faculty Educator Hall of Fame from Baylor Department of Medicine, Graduate Medical Education Teacher of the Year Award from The Methodist Hospital, Edward C. Lynch Outstanding Teacher Award from the Methodist Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program, Outstanding Hematology Teacher of the Year from Baylor Hematology-Oncology Fellowship, Teaching Service of the Year from Methodist Hematology, a Leadership Award for the Methodist Hospital Department of Medicine, and the “Honorary Fellow” Outstanding Educator Award from MD Anderson Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program. He is also a member of the following professional associations: American Medical Association, the Texas Gulf Coast Hematology Society, the American Society of Hematology, and the American College of Physicians.
